Riptide fire procedure

🔔 Fire Evacuation Procedure for Riptide

  • Raise the Alarm

    • Any person discovering fire must immediately activate the nearest fire alarm call point.

    • Staff should notify all occupants verbally if alarm is not heard.

  • Immediate Actions

    • Stop all activities (classes, therapy sessions, training stations).

    • Instructors and staff guide participants calmly toward the nearest exit.

    • Do not collect personal belongings.

  • Evacuation Routes

    • Use the two designated exits; each lead to a safe location within no more than two doors.

    • Ensure clear signage and unobstructed pathways at all times.

    • Occupants in the main gym room (12m x 6m) exit via the nearest marked door.

    • Occupants in the therapy room and reception area follow the posted exit route to the nearest safe door.

  • Outdoor Training Zone

    • If classes are already outside, participants remain in the training zone and move to the designated assembly point.

    • Do not re‑enter the building.

  • Assembly Point

    • All evacuees gather at the designated safe assembly area at the café south side outside the building, away from entrances and access routes for emergency services.

    • Staff conduct a headcount to confirm all persons (max capacity 24 for indoors) are accounted for.

  • Responsibilities

    • Instructors/Staff: Lead evacuation, assist anyone needing help, check rooms quickly if safe.

    • Bring visitor log and assist with headcount.

    • Lead Instructor/Coach &/or Therapist (if appointed):
Ensure both exits are clear, close doors behind evacuees if safe.

  • Emergency Services

    • Call 999 immediately once safe outside.

    • Provide details: building layout, number of people, fire location if known.

  • Do Not

    • Do not Re‑enter the building until declared safe by Fire & Rescue Service.

✅ Key Notes

  • Maximum internal occupancy: 30 people — manageable for quick headcount.

  • Two exits ensure redundancy; no more than two doors to safety keeps escape routes short.

  • Outdoor training zone doubles as a safe space but must connect to the assembly point procedure.
